A large tennis court running the length of the lot adjacent to the Owner's house had outlasted its usefulness. The owner wanted to build a cabana and a pool for her nephews and nieces who lived one house over at her sister's and brother-in-law's home. Safety and privacy for the pool users was important. Retaining as much of the existing tennis court area for conversion to a basketball court was also part of the program. The design solution followed a clear logic: place a long brick wall along the tennis net line. This wall would simultaneously define one side of the basketball court, serve as the "back" of the cabana, and create a private pool area. The happy outcome: the owner now has a compact basketball court, a well-equipped pool cabana, and a lushly landscaped lap and play pool surrounded by a flagstone deck. All-in-all, a deft design solution to a multi-layered program set. |
