The original visit to the site reveals
a knoll that offers an opportunity to design a one-half circle house
with exceptional views to the southeast and south. But, it is not
to be. The client expresses concerns about being too close to the road.
Desiring more privacy, the client selects another location farther
from the road. After about 10 days of designer's "block," the new site
begins to "speak," yielding a first mark of a large, "discovered" wall
(like Maya Lin's Vietnam War Memorial) traversing the knoll, a "saddle-back
dip," and a gentle rise on a second, small escarpment, further back.
The "block" passes as the new site begins to sing its distinctive tune—directing
this designer's hand—and more! |
