From initial meetings with the
City of Boerne's Design Committee to dedication—2 1/2 years—we
experienced a most stimulating gauntlet
of challenges. Initial budget estimates for a limited, tax-payer-friendly scope
increased three-fold as the program was expanded. Before approval by the
City Council, including a sans onion dome gazebo design, a determined
group of design professionals and historically oriented citizens
insisted that the onion dome be incorporated in the new gazebo
proposal. Back to the drawing board. Three bid openings later, we had a
winner! For a final budget of about $550,000, Main Plaza has a new gazebo,
a M/W restroom facility that mirrors an old pump house, extensive sidewalks,
a new water feature with fiber-optic lighting, a low masonry wall that
gives definition to the east side of the Plaza and helps reduce traffic
noise, generous landscaping and new lighting and electrical for events.
Would we do it again? In a second. |
